I recently came across a cute little rendition of a familiar poem...called The Month after Christmas... Twas the month after Christmas and all through the house, nothing would fit me, not even a blouse. The cookies I'd nibbled, the eggnog I'd taste at the holiday parties had gone to my waist   When I got on the scale, there arouse such a number!! When I walked to the store (less a walk than a lumber), I'd remember the marvelous meals I'd prepared, the gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared, the wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese and the way I'd never said, "NO THANK YOU PLEASE." Recently I heard the saying..."Make your Mess your Message." Of course the context it was offered in was that the tragedy isn't the mess itself but rather in not using your mess to make your life and/or someone else's life better. Well I'm going to suggest that moving into the New Year that you, our wonderfully bendy students, see our mess at Body Language as an opportunity that we are taking to greatly better your Body Language experience. This time of year with the approaching of Thanksgiving, we are reminded to stop... pause... and consider all that we have to be grateful for.  The simple act of counting our blessings actually changes our brain chemistry...not only making us more content but actually making our brains healthier as well.  Of course for many found at the top of that gratitude list are our family and friends.  We all appreciate being surrounded by people who love and support us but you might be interested to know that the more positive connections we have in our lives (spouses, kids, friends, pets...) the happier and healthier our brains are as well. So my antics this month is really just piggy backing on a letter that my dear friend Herb posted on facebook a few days brought me to tears and I wanted to share his journey with our Body Language family...I encourage you all to take a few minutes to read it for 2 reasons...1) to hear Herbs inspirational story as well as the transformational piece yoga and a sense of community has played in his life and 2) to grasp the impact that each of us has...often unknowingly in each persons life we come in contact with... The other day I was listening to a mom describe a conversation she was having with her middle school son. She was sharing some things with him that he really didn't want to hear and instead of waiting for him to react she simply ended her conversation with 3 words..."Go Process That.." Those 3 words have stuck in my brain and served as the inspiration for my antics this week. Read More

Just a couple of weeks ago I had the amazing opportunity to hike the Grand Canyon.  It was my first time out there and for those of you who have witnessed it, you know firsthand that the view is breathtaking and surreal. Loved Chris' description on Facebook as she summed it all up by referring to the excursion as one of those "WOW" days!!  We hiked 5 miles down and 5 miles back up for a total of 8 hours on the trails, and while it was a beautiful feast for our eyes it was also intense, edgy and challenging for our bodies.   Read More

I recently came across a simple quote that I felt compelled to share with you all as I’m certain it applies to all of us in some area of our lives…”You cannot always wait for the perfect time, sometimes you must dare to jump.” What area of your life might this apply to??? What the quote instantly brought to my mind was the many conversations I’ve had with several of you over the past month regarding the upcoming yoga teacher training. Read More

I was sitting getting my nails done the other day and Dr. Oz came on…had I been sitting at home working I would have quickly changed the channel as I have really come to struggle with his “miracle diet of the day” sensationalism.  But since I was captive at the nail salon I was forced to listen to his ridiculous babble. That days topic was gluten and the “expert” of the day was claiming that gluten is now implicated in dementia and Alzheimers.  So I decided it was time for me to speak up… Read More
