2022 marks 25 years of my owning Body Language. Crazy hard to believe!! One of the ways we are celebrating this 1/4 of a century in business is by sharing the evolution of BL on social media every Thursday. Throwback Thursdays. Chris is digging out some old pics that paint a picture of all the fun we’ve had over the past 25 years. Be sure to check them out. Just LIKE us on Facebook and/or FOLLOW us on Instagram to take this trip down memory lane with us. The social media snippets will be the cliff note version and my antics will give you more of the details of this 25 year journey.
So if you care to hear more…
I started going to BL on M59 where Doors of Pontiac is now located. I always worked out by walking outside or on treadmill and had really never experienced group fitness. A neighbor of mine encouraged me to go and I was immediately hooked. So much more fun and motivating than my daily walks. Oh, and then my neighbor and I rallied a couple of other friends and we formed a car pool/buddy system to drive to BL nearly every day. (Kim, who teaches barre here, was one of those neighbors!!).
After taking classes for a few months, the owner asked me to teach. No training…no previous experience. Just get up on that bench (which was a homemade wooden box with swirls of pink and blue spray paint on it) AND TEACH. And I did!!!
Fast forward a few months later and the previous owners moved to where we are now and about the same time I also started running an aerobic program down the street at World Gym.
So in addition to running this program at World Gym and teaching at BL, I was also asked to help out at the front desk at BL from time to time.
And…standing at the front desk of BL was exactly where I was when Chris walked through the front door asking about a job!! She said she had just moved here from Ohio and was looking for a place to teach aerobics…where she could have a free membership and child care. I was quick to let her know that the owners of BL were only paying $8/class but that I could pay her $15/ class if she was willing to just drive a few miles further down the road to World Gym. (Ok.. maybe slightly unethical but?) She accepted the job at World Gym and so the Chris and Andrea story begins…but you’ll have to stay tuned for a future antics for the continuation of our journey.
