As many of you probably know, in addition to teaching fitness and yoga, I am also a Registered Dietitian and am passionate about helping people look and feel their best.  One of the most effective tools I have discovered in this journey to help others lose unwanted pounds is, believe it or not, YOGA.  

 

Most overweight men and women believe their excess body fat is solely due to the food choices they make...and while we all know that our food and exercise choices can greatly impact our waistlines...mental stress and tension as well as the fact that most of us function in a chronic state of "disconnection" are in large part responsible for our nations' ever-expanding waistlines.

 

In fact, I have had several students come to me looking for my help to lose weight and the very first thing I tell them is to get on their yoga mat.  Yoga teaches us how to listen to ourselves which results in us making more conscious choices on and off our mat.  We start to listen to when we are hungry and when we are full and become less reactive to our emotions which often lead us down a path of making poor food choices.  

 

Yoga also calms our nervous system and when we are calmer, our stress hormones are lessened and physically our body is more willing to shed those unwanted layers of fat.  

 

So I would love to have you join me this Sunday, May 17th starting with a better backs practice to give you a chance to directly experience how yoga can be an effective tool to help you lose weight which will then be followed by a lecture to help you better understand stresses impact on our waistlines.  The lecture will also provide you with some sound nutrition guidelines to make sure the choices you are making will support losing weight.
