Chances are if you have been in one of my yoga classes you've heard me use the following analogy as you move through cat cow. As you exhale and round your spine your gaze is to your navel. An opportunity to look inside...to get to know yourself a little better...to establish what's important to you...to figure out what you stand firm on and are convicted about.
Then as you inhale and sag your back...you lift your gaze which gives you an opportunity to look beyond yourself...to notice the needs of others...to soak up other people's opinions and ways of thinking. I also go on to say that if we spend too much time "navel gazing" we run the risk of becoming self absorbed...narrow minded and too fixated on our own needs, challenges and issues. But on the contrary, if we are always looking outside of ourselves without our own convictions then we fall prey to the needs and demands of others without taking care of ourselves. Another risk we take in this second scenario is that if we aren't grounded (i.e.don't do enough navel gazing) we can be easily swayed by the way others think and navigate through their lives even if it's not really what's important to us.
So...I am sharing this with you to challenge each of you to look inside yourselves and determine if it's time to look outside yourselves and support one of our own. Meghan Smith has been a fitness teacher at Body Language for the past 5 years...she has also done a great job of taking over as our retail manager. She is a wonderful person and an important part of our Body Language family.
She and her husband Travis have 2 healthy little boys, but 9 months ago she gave birth to their daughter who, from day 1, has struggled with a large variety of physical ailments. Meghan and Travis have sought out many different doctors and many different treatments in order to bring their daughter Emerson relief from her daily seizures and myriad of other medical challenges. Chris and I are both personally convicted to do all we can to support this family in need. We are grateful to be able to contribute to the gofundme account they have established for Emerson but we wanted to take it one step further by reaching out to our Body Language family to see if perhaps some of you might be willing and able to do the same. Thank you for considering this challenge...and for looking inside yourselves to see if perhaps this is a way you're able to give this Holiday Season...it's what our Body Language family is all about!!
