Andrea's Antics, March 23rd, 2016

andrea_welcomFirst of all I would like to applaud each and every one of you who joined our March Madness. As I mentioned in a previous antics we offered this challenge to encourage our students to keep showing up during the month of March which is when many bail on their New Years Resolutions.

In conjunction with this challenge I offered a nutrition seminar outlining the 4 most important things we all need to be doing to most effectively manage our waistlines and our health. Feel like there is so much conflicting nutrition information out there that it's important as a Registered Dietitian to streamline this info and offer you what has truly been proven to be effective.

So in case you didn't make the nutrition seminar here is an abbrevaited recap. 1) you've got to move...mix up your workouts...get some cardio...some weight training and some yoga in every week. Ideally 4-5 workouts per week 2) manage the stress in your life...try taking at least one better backs yoga class per week and notice how it helps you to be calmer and less reactive both on and off your mat 3) sleep 7-8 hours per night...when we don't get a good night's sleep our stress hormones are elevated sending a message to our brains that we are in a fight or flight situation. Our bodies then go into survival mode causing us to store more fat in our bodies...if sleep is an issue for you we have a wonderful herbal supplement called End Fatigue which helps your muscles to relax resulting in a better nights sleep 4) eat 4-6 small meals a day...make sure each meal and snack has some good carbs (fruits/veggies/whole grains) some good fats (nuts, avocado, olive oil, salmon) and a little protein (chicken, turkey, eggs, cheese).

Lastly if you're looking for more guidance in any or all of these areas or just feel you could benefit from some one on one time...keep a 5-7 day food diary and set up a private nutrition consult with me. I will help you identify areas that may need some tweeking in your diet and offer you more specific suggestions to help you realize your weight and health goals. Click here for more information regarding private nutrition consults.
Most importantly just keep showing up...you don't have to have the perfect workout regimen or perfect diet...you really need to just keep coming to class and keep trying to make healthier food choices. Hope to see you in class!!
