I just got back from a girlfriend trip and as part of our adventures we went “mucking.” I know, I hear you… what the heck is mucking, it sounds terrible, and why would anyone electively do it?? Well the pictures pretty much tell all…you strap on tall plastic boots (that we actually purchased just for this adventure) and walk in the mud.
Not just any mud but thick, deep, stinky mud…and so you ask again, why would anyone electively do this? BECAUSE it is a new adventure, BECAUSE it got some of us out of our comfort zones (yep you guessed it, this wasn’t my idea), BECAUSE we may actually uncover a treasure amidst the muck…and BECAUSE it forces us to ask the question about trying any new adventure…”what’s the worst thing that could happen?” We get a little muddy!!
As I was mucking and struggling to pull my foot from one spot to the next without leaving my boot behind, I was thinking of how our adventure of mucking could be likened to our every day lives. We tend to stay with the familiar, we shirk adventures or situations that are out of our comfort zones or have any uncertainty associated with them, we avoid getting muddy, and perhaps we question our ability to get back up if we fall.
So my challenge to all of you out there today is to go “mucking.” To find a new adventure that takes you out of your comfort zone, strap on your boots and take the risk of getting a little muddy.
p.s. Thanks Chris for encouraging me to “muck!!”
