My antics this week start with just a shout out to all moms… whether you are a mom or are celebrating yours. Whether your mom lives nearby, far away or has left this earth… we all can celebrate the impact they have had on our lives!!
In my nutrition nibbles last Sunday, I chatted briefly about the 5 love languages as outlined in Gary Chapmans book. Giving and feeling loved are important for our mental health and well being so it bears repeating. Here they are…
1. Physical touch
2. Quality Time
3. Acts of Service
4. Words of Affirmation
5. Gifts
How does your mom like to receive love?? How do YOU like to receive love? How about the other relationships in your life: your children, your spouse, your friends? This is a great conversation starter this Mother’s Day to discuss with those around you. Is the way you give love because that is the way you like to receive love or because that is what your loved ones actually value?
Ask anyone in my family…what I REALLY appreciate is Acts of Service. I will take 4 hours of “de-schmucking” (as we call it at our house) over any gift or fancy meal. Now, it probably goes without saying that my husband and children aren’t super excited about tidying up the house and giving me this gift, but that’s what I prefer and appreciate the most.
So, challenging each of us to have the discussion with whomever we are surrounded by this Mother’s Day! Share your Love Language and then listen to theirs. The only way we can truly give meaningful love to another person is by figuring out what their Love Language really is!
Happy Mother’s Day to all!!
