Today we feature one of our yoga teachers and one of our fitness teachers both of whom started working out at BL back in 2007…
Shawn stumbled into BL in 2007 and decided to go through teacher training in 2010. She recently shared with me that she really didn’t go into the training with expectations to teach but just loved yoga and wanted to learn all she could. Like many yoga and fitness teachers, she has a “real” job (the one that pays the bills) as an analyst. Like Jamie, she remembers the timeline based on an emotionally charged child moment as she found out she was pregnant with her daughter Sydney the day she did her post training feedback. In addition to teaching 4 classes a week at BL, Shawn leads a couple of workshops for our teacher training program. Recently, Shawn subbed her very first class on the fitness side…teaching on both sides of BL is a feat only held by a small handful of us!!
Some things you may not know about Shawn….her hobbies are spending time with her family and friends, she loves yoga and traveling, her happy place is a being at her family’s cottage in Caseville, she loves naps and dark chocolate and she and her husband have 2 beautiful and very active daughters who LOVE to dance!!
My 2 cents on Shawn is that she has been a rock for BL…her classes are consistent and solid and over the years she has become one of our student’s favorites.
Shawn we are beyond grateful to have you a part of our Team BL.
Emily started working out at BL with her mom back in 2007 as well. We had just started up our Zumba program that year and Emily shared with me that was when she “fell in love with doing Zumba!” She started teaching Zumba in 2016 while in nursing school and has been a nurse now for 6 years. She is married to a firefighter and fun fact about Emily is that she met him in the ER while at work!!! They have a 2.5 year old son named Jack. When Emily is not working out at BL she loves to run!! (That’s a gene I never got but applaud those who did.) She has run a few half marathons and is hoping to train for a full marathon next year. The other race she likes to do is the fight for AirClimb which is a stair climb race that she has done for the last 10 years to help the fight against lung cancer.
What stands out to me about Emily is the positive energy she radiates. Whether you’re in her class or just chatting with her in the Link, her smile and her presence just fills the room with good vibes. Emily thank you for shining your light at BL!!
