When I think of Jen Hill…I think of music!! Some of you may be a student of hers at the 5:45 am Wednesday yoga class..(that I have yet to get up for) and have enjoyed her creative playlists. But her love of music goes well beyond her yoga playlists; in fact, she goes every year to South By Southwest in Austin Texas and listens to live music for 5 days, 12 hours a day. She also shared with me that while she’s there she researches all the bands, creates spreadsheets and playlists for her friends and then is excited to share her finds in her yoga class!!
Jen heard about BL through one of her sons who was friends with one of Chris’ sons. She said she started going to BL for the yoga because she was burnt out of fitness. (And because Chris kept bugging her to come in). She immediately fell in love and decided within 3 months that she would go through our yoga teacher training program. It took her 3 years to commit but has been teaching the 5:45 am Wednesday class ever since (yes I will surprise you and show up one of these days, Jen). She loves introducing new and interesting music in each class and always comes with a message. She shared with me that often that message addresses her own “mess” and while it can be scary to be vulnerable, she feels that the more real she is the more people she touches. Love this Jen!!
One more thing you may not know about Jen is that she was on the original committee for the Milford Memories Summer Festival and has served as the Event Coordinator and in other capacities for nearly 2 decades. She said that it has been a huge challenge but is honored to be part of something that touches so many people’s lives. If you haven’t checked out Milford Memories, it’s a fabulous event (August 11-13 this year).
Jen and her husband Jon have been blessed with 3 children and 4 grandchildren. Jen we are grateful to have you in our space sharing your passion for yoga and music with your BL family!!
The second teacher we are highlighting this week is Tricia Auten. The words that come to mind when I think of Tricia are…fun loving, adventuresome, and bold!! There are always a lot of laughs and giggles when Tricia is in the Link or teaching one of her classes. We created two classes specifically for her…one called Chisel and Sculpt and the other Butts and Guts. Her claim to fame when teaching these classes is…Don’t Drop Your Quarter. If you don’t know what this means then maybe it’s time to show up on a Sunday morning at 9 am and find out. Whether in or out of class, she says it like it is!! You will never have to question how she feels about something or what she believes in. Love her boldness!!
When Tricia isn’t teaching or hanging out at BL she is likely doing 1 of 3 things. 1) Seeking out the next adventure. She loves to hunt and fish and recently just got her first bear!! 2) Hanging out with her 3 children…who she refers to as “Magnificent humans.” Or 3) Working at her “real job” which is owner of Pretty Hunter. BLhas been a proud vendor of Tricia’s Pretty Hunter jewelry and apparel line for several years. In fact, rarely will you see me out and about without sporting a piece or two of her unique jewelry. I love it!! Tricia shared with me that she has been an entrepreneur since her paper route back when she was 12 years old. She started this brand to get outdoors and has since then traveled the globe seeing outdoor adventures including Africa, Canada, Colorado and more.
When I asked Tricia to share a few things about herself that others might not know she said this: ”EVERYTHING I DO, is to lift all others up. I firmly believe we are only as great as we make those around us!!” In an effort to stand behind this statement she has recently decided to run for State Representative.
Tricia thank you for adding some spice to BL every time you walk through our doors and thank you for all the myriad of ways you support our BL community!!
