What a week it has been…the subject of Wednesday Wine & Wisdom’s nutrition seminar was The Gut Brain Connection. We kicked off our Yoga Teacher Training program with 15 students attending, we had a great BL turn out to support the Julie Run to end Hunger, we hosted a Yin Gong Bath Immersion and we helped several students feel a little more comfortable starting their yoga practice in our Yoga 101 workshop. WOW!! Lots of good happenings at BL for sure this week alone
In my yoga class on Friday morning, I mentioned a little bit about some of the content from the Gut Brain Seminar and there seemed to be lots of chatter after class and several students expressed wanting to learn more. SO I’m just going to give you a few bullet point take homes and I am also going to leave the handout from the workshop at the front desk for those of you who want to pick up a copy. Also, we recorded this seminar and it will be dropped into the BL 365 class library shortly. So those of you who have unlimited memberships will have access to this video in the next couple of weeks. Lastly, if interested in learning more, you can mark your calendars for Wednesday, November 8th as I will be hosting another nutrition seminar on how to Beat the Holiday Bulge, but I will also be weaving in some information from this gut brain chat as well.
So here are your take homes:
- Consume more Probiotics…Fermented Food and Drink: Examples include Yogurt, Sauerkraut, Pickles, Tea & Red Wine
- Consider a Pro-biotic Supplement: BL offers one just ask at the front desk. Great way to supplement your diet and add more good bugs to your gut
- Eat More Fiber: The good bugs that we want more of eat fiber for food. So include more whole grains, seeds, beans, fruits and vegetables
- Eat the Rainbow of Fruits & Veggies: Variety is key AND the more color the better in terms of serving as an Anti-oxidant and Anti-inflammatory
- Try to consume more fresh regional produce: Local food has more of the good bacteria to fight off the local bad bacteria
- Eat more good fats: Fatty Fish, Walnuts, Avocado, Olives and Olive Oil
- Eat LESS: Red meat, Processed Meat, Smoked meat
- Eat LESS: Sugar and Refined Carbs Limit sugary foods and white carbs like white bread, white pasta that have been stripped of fiber
