So I was thinking the other day, that although BL has been a promoter of wellness since day one, our definition of wellness has expanded dramatically. BL’s wellness journey really started as a Registered Dietitian (that would be me) teaching a few aerobics classes. When I bought BL in 1997, I hired a crew of aerobics teachers and shared nutrition advice with the students. Then in 2003 we opened the yoga center and so now our definition of wellness expanded to fitness, nutrition AND yoga!! The next layer added was our massage program which, in and of itself, has exploded from 1 therapist to 4 therapists as well as an esthetician. So currently our definition of wellness encompasses Fitness, Nutrition, Yoga, Massage & Facials…so much good stuff!! But a few months ago, as I was writing my antics about my oldest daughter’s struggles with mental illness, I realized we could still expand our definition of wellness to include one more layer…mental wellness. And although Ronda does offer a couple of workshops in conjunction with our Yoga Teacher Training program which touch on these areas (Yoga for Anxiety & Depression as well as Trauma informed Yoga), we don’t have anything available on a regular basis to address our mental health.
Then appears Tamara Zoner. I met her at a workshop at BL and learned that she has been a Happiness coach for the past 10 years. The way she describes herself is that her mission is to “help people develop radiant relationships with themselves and others by cultivating the habits of authentic happiness. The ultimate goal being to create a life that we all love living NOW.” Loved this!!
So Chris and I put our heads together with Tamara and developed a Weekend Wellness Series. Tamara is going to be offering a series of workshops at BL on the second Saturday of each month focusing on different aspects of cultivating Happiness. They are just 75 minutes in length and only $20 to attend. The first one is Saturday, January 13th from 11-12:15 and is titled: Foundations for Authentic Happiness. The series will continue each month with a different focus. February is The Mental Body-Supporter or Saboteur? March is Passion & Purpose-Cultivating a Life that Matters. April is The #1 Human Need-Connection. You can pick and choose the ones that fit into your schedule or attend them all. There are more details available on your BL app, on our website, or the Wellness Weekend Series flyer found in the Link.
I am excited about, once again, expanding BL’s definition of wellness. Our mental health is every bit as important as our physical health and they go hand in hand to support our overall wellbeing.
I hope you will consider attending!!
