Some of you have undoubtedly heard Chris and I talk about our 4 wheeling adventures or maybe you’ve seen pics of us with our dusty, dirty faces on Social Media. In fact, as you read this antics we are just getting back from a 3 day ride covering nearly 100 miles a day! The ride takes us through snowmobile trails all around the Upper Peninsula…from Lake Michigan to Lake Superior and back. Great trails…great times…great friends…and lots of sunshine. I truly love these adventures. It’s become one of my favorite things to do. BUT I have to tell you, that not having grown up riding, 4 wheeling was initially a bit edgy for me, AND still is from time to time even after years of riding. The balancing over the ruts in the trails, the uncertainty of the deepness of the puddles, the maneuvering around the turns…often brings me to my edge! That being said at the end of the day when I take off my helmet and we stop for the night, there is always a sense of exhilaration and a sense of accomplishment. I would be super bummed with myself if I let a little edginess keep me from experiencing this amazing adventure!!
I’m sharing this with you because I’m pretty certain that you can all find an area of your life where you can relate. There can be a high in moving out of our comfort zones and trying something new…whether it’s 4 wheeling, going back to school, enrolling in our yoga teacher training program, entering into a new relationship, moving, finding a better job, trying a new fitness class, or just learning how to stand on your head!!! BUT it can be SO easy to sit back and play it safe and then miss out on all that life has to offer us!!
All of us may relate to this message in different areas of our lives but the commonality is FEAR! We let FEAR of falling or FEAR of failing hold us back. Instead of claiming the old acronym for FEAR…False Evidence Appearing Real, how about adopting the acronym I’ve heard Jamie share in class …Forget Everything And Rise!!! Forget our previous ways of thinking and the things that have kept us from trying something new. Oh, and next time you’re leaving BL, make sure to stop by our colorful butterfly and read the saying next to it, or better yet, have a friend snap a picture of you standing between the butterfly wings and tag @bodylanguagefitnessyoga in your instagram story. But it goes like this…”What if I fall…oh but my darling, what if you FLY.” Perhaps it’s time for you to FLY!!!
