My antics this week starts out with a shout out to Valentine’s Day. Although some would say it’s just a cheesy holiday created to sell Hallmark cards, I still feel like it reminds us to pause and celebrate the loved ones in our lives. It also reminds us to be grateful for all the different types of love and all the people in our lives we are blessed to be loved by!

As we just celebrated Valentine’s Day, I want to give a second shout out to a book that I read a few years ago called The 5 Love Language’s by Gary Chapman. It’s about how we give and receive love. I thought that as we share our love with one in another in varying ways, it would be a good reminder.

So first of all, here are the 5 Love Languages…

Physical touch
Quality Time
Acts of Service
Words of Affirmation
Gifts
How do YOU like to receive love? How about the other relationships in your life? Your children, your spouse, your friends? This is a great conversation starter this Valentine’s Day weekend to discuss with those around you. Is the way you give love because that is the way you like to receive love or because that is what your loved ones actually value?

Ask anyone in my family…what I REALLY appreciate are Acts of Service. I will take 4 hours of “de-schmucking” (tidying) as we call it at our house, over any gift or fancy meal. Now it probably goes without saying that my husband and children have never shared my enthusiasm about tidying up the house and giving me this gift, but that’s what I prefer and appreciate the most.

So I’m challenging each of us to have the discussion with whomever we are surrounded by this Valentine’s weekend. Share your Love Language and then listen to theirs. The only way we can truly give meaningful love to another person is by figuring out what their Love Language really is!

Happy Valentine’s Day to all!!
