Wow it would be an understatement to say that the month of February was jam packed with...a lot of challenges and changes for Chris and I at BL. We had several shifts in our managerial staff and their responsibilities.  We had a couple of staff with surgeries scheduled only to be cancelled and rescheduled. I literally re-did much of the February fitness, yoga and manager schedule over 5 times. It’s been something!! It’s not an exaggeration to say that pretty much every day this past month, I was reminded of the inevitably of CHANGE. And, even more importantly, I had to remind myself daily that I had a choice on how I reacted to that change. In fact, if you practice yoga, you will hear many of us state that change is really the only constant in life. It’s the one thing that is inevitable. Sometimes we resist it and want to stay where we are because it’s familiar or comfortable and other times we seek out change…wishing away our present moment…looking for something new, different or better ahead of us. Regardless, change happens. One of my all time favorite quotes goes like this…

“3 sailors go out to sea and the wind changes…the pessimist complains about the wind…the optimist waits for the wind to change back and the realist ADJUSTS HIS SAILS!!”

Quite honestly, I love this mainly because I struggle with it!! I use this saying as a tool in many areas of my own life to remind myself to ADJUST MY SAILS. Another way to look at this is if there is an area of your life where there is a gap between your Expectations and your Reality then it might be time for you to apply this message to your life and ADJUST YOUR SAILS. I have even heard it described super simply the other day…if you hear yourself using the phrase…”I wish.” I wish I was younger…I wish I was thinner…I wish my kids would hurry up and go off to school…I wish my kids would come visit me…I wish my husband could retire…I wish my husband would go back to work. We can wish our life away or we can alter our expectations to meet our reality.

If you can identify with this in some area of your life and are wondering how to learn to bridge the gap between how things are and how you want them to be…get on your yoga mat. Yoga is a powerful tool for learning to listen to ourselves and practicing accepting where we are. With continuity of practice, that acceptance starts to permeate into those areas of our life that need some adjusting. And if your reality makes it difficult to get to your mat regularly, then perhaps consider supplementing your in studio classes with our class library. Did you know that every student who is on an auto pay membership has access to our on demand class library. AND we even offer the On Demand Class Library as a separate membership if life doesn’t allow you to come in studio at all right now. It’s also included in your suspension fee if you are a snowbird or needed to put your membership on hold for any reason. We are continuing to add to this library weekly and have a huge variety of both yoga and fitness classes to pick from. You can workout or practice yoga with all of the amazing BL staff in the comfort of your own home. Check it out!!

So there you have it…we have a choice. We can make ourselves miserable because some area in our life is not going the way we planned or we can consciously and deliberately choose to ADJUST OUR SAILS!!

Know that we will all be sailing right along side of eachother…always a work in progress!!!

Cheers to Team BL!!
