Chris and I are just getting back from an adventure that started with hiking in Mount Zion Utah and then ended at a business conference in Hollywood. One of the keynote speakers was Jillian Michaels who was a trainer on the reality show "The Biggest Loser". She delivered an awesome message about how we, as fitness professionals, can inspire others to look and feel their best or to try something new that scares them. What really stuck with me from her message was that there are truly just 3 scenarios when any one of us is trying to work through our fears to accomplish something. Read More

As you read these words, picture me sitting in a swinging chair overlooking Lake Michigan....in fact the only thing separating me from this vast body of water is about 6 feet of sand. Our family has vacationed here at this family camp in Arcadia Michigan on and off for the past 3 decades. Read More

I'm sitting at my kitchen table looking out at another fabulous Michigan day!! My husband, Dave, is working out in our yard trying to spruce up our landscaping. We purchased our home 3 years ago from the original owners who had let the landscaping become pretty unkempt. Dave is pulling out bushes that have rotted, died, or just beyond help, and then replacing some of these with new plants. Read More

Most of you by now have met my youngest daughter, Briana. She has been a part of our BL family almost her entire life (since she was 7 years old) and just recently has stepped up to play an even bigger role in our family as a manager and yoga teacher. Thousands of years ago a guy named Patanjali wrote the yoga sutras...a set of guidelines for us to practice both on and off our mats. The intention of these guidelines is that if we try to follow them we will have a more blissful life...or maybe another way to describe it is we will experience less self imposed suffering and more inner peace. He identifies 5 obstacles to this peace with 1 of them being "attachments." Read More

I want to take this opportunity to personally invite...no personally encourage...no personally challenge you to attend my dear friend Alan Haras' workshop on Saturday, March 12th from 1-4 pm. I also personally guarantee that you will walk away thinking that you just made the best investment of 3 hours of your time ever. Alan is speaking on the 8 limbs of yoga and how living these 8 limbs is a practice in becoming whole...of learning to enjoy life to its fullest...of feeling liberated from the ways of thinking that tend to bog us down...of learning to treat others with the respect intended. The 8 limbs of yoga are the real crux of what yoga is all about...the principles that the practice of yoga was built on and the ways that practicing these 8 limbs can better our lives. Read More

New Year...New You!! Now with the craziness of the holidays almost behind us perhaps its time for some re-grouping.  So in my last antics I mentioned that we are constantly challenged with finding that balance between looking outside of us by serving those around us and looking inside of ourselves to make sure our own needs are being met as well.   The holidays tend to offer us ample opportunities to give...to look "outside"...whether its giving to a friend in need, our favorite charity, or just giving of our precious time by sharing the holidays with friends and family.
