Hey guys…just checking in to see how everyone is going as we are almost half way through March. It’s so good to see so many bodies participating in the Make a Difference March challenge!! I love that so many of you are trying out different classes and teachers in order to get your 20 classes in. It’s been so great hearing about how you tried a class for the first time and it’s your new favorite or that you found a teacher that you hadn’t met before. One of the best things is that many of you have expressed finding new muscles and sore spots you didn’t even know you had as you shake up your routine!! Just a reminder that the more we mix it up, the more our muscles are “confused” and the better results we see. Instead of getting stuck in a plateau with no results, we start to see progress. So last month my message was: “show up” and this month I add to it: “shake it up.”

Now, that being said…taking care of ourselves is more than just getting our bodies into shape…it’s about taking care of our brains as well. And when we shake things up we actually create new nervous pathways in our brain as we learn new ways to move our bodies. The more nervous pathways we create in our lifetimes, the bigger the reserve we have as our brains start to age.

But the other thing our brain loves is rest. Our brains appreciate a little break from the incessant chatter of our minds. That 5 minutes at the end of every yoga class that we call Savasana…well it has a huge calming effect over our whole nervous system and it literally changes our brain chemistry to reduce stress. When we reduce stress we see so many benefits to both our bodies and our brain such as lowered blood pressure, increased fat metabolism, boosted immune system, better digestion, decreased fatigue, less anxiety and fewer headaches…just to name a few.

So what’s better than those 5 minutes of Savasana?? How about 30 minutes of Savasana. An entire 30 minutes to lay on your back and chill. No one ever complains about too long of a Savasana. Oh and it gets even better!! Not only do you get to chill for 30 minutes, you get rubbed by my yoga teacher trainees while laying there. They get practice and your get rubbed!! Win Win!! This is only offered twice a year and usually fills up so sign up soon. Only $5 to reserve your spot!!

So there you go…Show Up…Shake it Up and Savasana!!

Today I want to address what seems to be the latest trend in dieting: Intermittent Fasting.   Of course, fasting has been around forever but now the word “intermittent” has been put in front of it and it has taken on this sexy, sensationalized appeal for losing weight.   Read More
