It’s been great seeing so many new and returning students the past couple of weeks. BL is so excited to be part of your journey to take better care of yourself in 2024. But, that being said, working out and practicing yoga is really only half of the wellness equation. The other half is “what are you putting in your mouth.” As some of you are aware, my degree is actually in Nutrition. I am a Registered Dietitian and I am super passionate about sharing sound nutrition information with all our BL peeps!! So twice a year, I offer a nutrition seminar geared at arming all of you with knowledge and tools to manage your health and your waistlines more effectively. The next one is Wednesday, February 7th and is titled Mood, Mind, & Appetite.
While most of my nutrition seminars focus on what and what not to eat, this one is a little different.Read More

Some of you might be surprised to know I haven’t always been a group exercise person. I’ve always worked out, but for years it was just walking outside or on a treadmill. Then, in 1993, one of my girlfriends suggested I try out this place called Body Language on M-59. I remember my first reaction was: "why would I want to spend money to work out when I could just hop on my treadmill or walk around the block?"  But she was persistent so I gave it a try. Well….needless to say, Read More

So I was thinking the other day, that although BL has been a promoter of wellness since day one, our definition of wellness has expanded dramatically. BL’s wellness journey really started as a Registered Dietitian (that would be me) teaching a few aerobics classes. When I bought BL in 1997, I hired a crew of aerobics teachers and shared nutrition advice with the students. Then in 2003 we opened the yoga center and so now our definition of wellness expanded to fitness, nutrition AND yoga!! The next layer added was our massage program which, in and of itself, has exploded from 1 therapist to 4 therapists as well as an esthetician. So currently our definition of wellness encompasses Fitness, Nutrition, Yoga, Massage & Facials…so much good stuff!! But a few months ago, as I was writing my antics about my oldest daughter’s struggles with mental illness, I realized we could still expand our definition of wellness to include one more layer…mental wellness. In the past I have led a nutrition seminar called Beating the Holiday Bulge. This year I felt the need to focus more on fiber but the gist of the Beating the Holiday Bulge message is that the average American gains 7 pounds between Thanksgiving and New Years. Geez…I know. But although our first thought is to blame the Thanksgiving feast and Christmas cookies, the truth is that it's STRESS. Read More
